Topping out our list is the Swedish Koenigsegg Agera R, which has a mind-blowing speed of 273 mph, reaching 0 – 62 mph in 2.8 seconds. This high-tech hypercar runs on a mix of biofuel and 95 Octane, and can automatically ‘sense’ what fuel mixture is required to protect the engine.

Hennessey Venom GT
The Hennessey Venom GT is produced by a Texas-based manufacturer and assembled in the UK. This sleek, shining supercar boasts a 7 litre twin-turbo V8 engine bolted into its modified Lotus Exige chassis. It was recorded as doing just over 270 mph at the Kennedy Space Centre in 2014 but didn’t make it into the Guinness Book of Records as it only travelled in one direction (both directions are necessary for a record attempt).

Bugatti Veyron Super Sport
Bugatti (owned by German manufacturer Volkswagen) was the first company to produce a car to exceed 250 mph, the original Veyron. The Super Sport has increased horsepower and numerous aerodynamic changes to boost its extra mileage per hour. It is officially recognised by Guinness as the fastest car in the world, 268 mph was recorded at Volkswagen’s Ehra-Lessein test track in Germany.

McLaren F1
Although production of the McLaren F1 finished in 1998 (only 106 cars were produced) it remains one of the fastest supercars in the world, officially recorded at 242.8 mph. British manufacturer McLaren is best known for their Formula 1 racing cars, and the McLaren F1 was their first attempt at a road car. Despite not intended for the racing track, the F1 won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1995.
